Without a doubt, the most significant achievement of CCJ has been the establishment and success of the Community Outreach Programme. This programme, however, did not materialise simply as a good idea. As with many projects undertaken by CCJ, it has its inception in the field of research, and is a direct application of studies conducted.

CCJ has set a pattern of turning research into application. Over the years, the CCJ team has hosted groundbreaking conferences, which attracted international participation and brought together political parties, interest groups, the police, leading scholars, and others within the legal system.

The research and conferences were followed by workshops, which led to the development of the Community Outreach Programme through which victim support centres were established in rural communities. These later became the fully-fledged support centres of the Community Outreach Programme. The Outreach Centres form a link between Communities, Criminal Justice and Public Institutions.

Over the years, research papers produced by CCJ have been presented at conferences and published in respected journals both locally and internationally. The organisation continues to pursue areas of academic and applied research, that focus on further investigation into the criminal justice system, as well as the development and strengthening of the Community Outreach Programme.
