Locally

The activities of the Community Outreach Programme enable ordinary people to participate fully in the benefits and protections afforded them by the non-discriminatory legislation of post-apartheid South Africa. However, given the large scale of the problem of human rights violations, combined with the changes in legislation, legal and public institutions are unable to cope with and address many problems and shortcomings they experience as a result of these changes. Without the intervention of the Community Outreach Programme, these rights would simply be 'paper' rights, especially for rural dwellers.

Since its inception the Community Outreach Programme has assisted over 80 000 community members and reached 2 million people through its awareness programme.

The communities affected by the activities of the Community Outreach Programme have applauded its services and achievements. Statements such as "They have lit a lamp in the dark places in our lives" are heart-warming and encouraging for the staff and their associates.

Nationally (and Internationally)

The Community Outreach Programme has been an ongoing process from its inception. It has gone from strength to strength and its approach to justice accessibility is in demand throughout South Africa and Southern Africa.

The strength of the Programme is that it has built on its own foundations and learning's, as well as regularly monitored and assessed all aspects of its functions and impact. The needs of communities have been kept the top priority, whilst key processes, such as data collection, dissemination of information, and education and training have been rigorously assessed and improved upon.
